Vintage light fixtures can give your room a look of ancient peace and calm without the need to spend fortunes on genuine antiques or anything from the era you are trying to portray. Even though vintage light fixtures are obviously created to be used with modern electric light bulbs, there may still be cases where not enough light is thrown into certain areas. This can be remedied by getting hold of a free standing lamp to go next to the desk, or by fixing extra lamps to the wall above the desk. These lamps can also be of a vintage design.

The use of vintage lighting in kitchens and bathrooms is somewhat unusual, although there obviously was a need for kitchen lighting before fluorescent lights were developed during World War II. In poorer households there would typically just be a bare light bulb hanging from the ceiling but in richer houses a type of shading would be used. Fluorescent lighting is itself now an old technology, although it is still used in many modern kitchens despite the associated problems. Bathroom lighting has changed little since the development of plastics, which are clearly the best material to use for the fitting covers there.

It is possible to buy vintage light fixtures in many different designs from large online retailers. The advantage of doing this is that you will get an accurate description and photograph of the product, along with a return policy which actually means something. You can also go to a local store so that you can see the product in person which may even mean you can get a discount if you are buying other fixtures at the same time. You can also find bargains on Internet auction sites, but the risks involved with buying this way are obviously much higher. There are many sources of vintage light fixtures.
